The New Heart-throb

"I like taking myself to the limit and that's what I knew I would have to do for Roshan's character..."
WHAT'S THE FILM ABOUT?
"Back 2 Forward is essentially a thriller film, but there's a lot drama, romance, action and a little humour thrown in by certain characters. It centers around Roshan's character, but there's some other major characters who shape and re-shape his journey. Though he's leading a pretty settled life at the beginning Roshan has these visions in his sleep, one day they turn real with devastating consequences. As a result Roshan's left unconscious, the near death experience triggers his memory and this is where he discovers a life he never knew he had!
This takes him back 8 months where Roshan's at University, it's here where he's introduced by his childhood friend Ria to her University friends Danny, Amit, Anna and Kelly. This is where his life takes a few new twists and turns. I don't want to ruin it but quite a lot happens during this time! When Roshan awakes from his unconscious flashback he knows his past and more importantly the truth. He's more determined than ever to fight for justice. But, the only problem is he's the man wanted for the murder! So how will he go about finding the killer? Who is the killer? Is it Amit? Is it Danny? Is it Anna? Is it Ria? Is it Kelly? Or is it Roshan after all? And most importantly...WHY??"
WHY DID YOU MAKE BACK 2 FORWARD?
"Well I've always loved films from a young age and the idea of making a film had floated in my head for many years. But it was never the right time, I guess sometimes you have to just make things happen and just go for it, so I did! But it wasn't as easy or straight forward as that."
SO HOW DID IT START?
"Well, it was actually in 2010 when Back 2 Forward was conceived! It's quite funny but I remember at the time there were 5 or so big Hollywood films out, they were all so massively hyped and big budgets and I was pretty excited to check them out...but when I did I was really gutted, one after the other! (laughs) I just didn't get it, it actually just frustrated me and I thought I could write something with better characterisation and with a muliti-layered story that would be intriguing and unique, so I just thought that's it I'm going to start writing a story!
At this point I was just writing a film story for myself just to know that I can! I was working full time in the Council and found myself writing whenever I was free till the early hours. What started out as something just for the sake of it just grew and grew and I just ended up loving it and believing in it. I got to half way and that's when I thought this is going to make a great novel! But, I don't know at what point later, but something clicked and I thought, er why am I writing a novel when I can write a film script?! That's when I started studying screenwriting and changed it all in to a script. So after a few months in total I'd written a feature film!
I was pretty chuffed that I'd written what I thought was a totally cool and awesome film script. And at that time that's all I wanted so I got it out of my system! (laughs) So I continued doing what I was doing and forgot about the film for around a further 6 months or so. So yeah that's how it started in a big nutshell..."
WHEN DID YOU KNOW YOU WOULD MAKE IT AND PLAY ROSHAN?
"Well the people that I shared it to really loved the script and encouraged me to do something with it. I had no idea at this point that I would make the film or even play a part let alone be Roshan's character. But, I didn't want my vision in someone elses hand and be changed and altered for what sells, I wanted it to be made into a great film. And then it clicked again, the second click...that with my experience over the years I could make a film which is faithfull to my original vision.
But it was some further months that I had to wait for the third and final click!!(laughs) And that was in Trafford Centre, we were having a meal and my Mum asked whether I thought of playing Roshan's character! And as obvious as it was, when I wrote it I visualised someone else so it never clicked! (laughs). Anyway, that's when I thought long and hard and realised that not only did I want to make Back 2 Forward a reality, but that I could do justice to Roshan's character myself. I love challenges and I like taking myself to the limit and that's what I knew I would have to do for Roshan's character."
WHAT KIND OF FILM DID YOU WANT TO MAKE?
"I like most genres but I've always loved fast paced thriller films with lots of twists and turns, but I also like intensity and drama which helps take you on a journey of emotions. For me I wanted to make a film that was exciting, felt real and edgy yet had a little escapism. I don't think people should just do something for the sake of it, people should dream big, I wanted to make something that had never been seen before and try and make a real statement and impact. I think and I hope people will see that when they check Back 2 Forward."
WHAT INSPIRED THIS FILM?
"I love films that really take you on a journey and my life's been a journey and a half, I could write 10 films just based on that! (laughs) I knew certain experiences would resonate with others and connect. So yeah there's a few aspects of my real life in there, but they are just aspects..I'm not like a serial killer! Well, not on a Sunday! (laughs) Yeah, the majority comes from my vivid imagination, the combination provides a cocktail of emotions that will take you on a journey that you'll never forget!"
WHY SHOULD WE WATCH IT?
"Well I'm in it! (laughs) No only joking, but there's some great talent on show and you'll probably be watching some of the stars of the future. It's also a truly unique, powerful multi-layered story that will make you cry and smile. I also wanted to go beyond the stereotypes that are so easily portrayed and treat each character as an individual and make them shine. What you'll find is strong characterisation from all the main characters, which I think leads to a better understanding of why they do what they do, and it draws you in closer. Music is a big part of the film and there's 12 great songs, which add to the drama, tension and emotions in the film. Also, I find the concept of fate very intriguing with the whole notion that when one thing changes everything changes. And so sometimes when life is leading you in one direction it can suddenly re-direct you elsewhere...for better or for worse! This is the story of Back 2 Forward and these are just some of the reasons you should check this incredible film out!"
